Outdoor Dining Furniture

If you enjoy relaxing or entertaining at your home, or if you enjoy grilling out with friends or family, great outdoor dining furniture is a necessity for you. A nice outdoor or patio dining set allows you to relax and enjoy a nice meal outside, while also providing a beautiful look to your home.

There are many different types of furniture sets that are designed for the outdoors. Most dining sets will include a table and two to four chairs. These types of furniture sets come in many different designs and can be manufactured from different materials, each having its own unique look.

When most people think of patio sets and garden furniture, the classic wicker look is the first thing that comes to mind. Wicker furniture is largely inexpensive, although completely wicker sets can reach the high range on price.

Wicker outdoor sets provide a contemporary, elegant look and feel. These sets are also very light and easy to move around, but still stable enough for regular use.

The main drawback for wicker furniture is that it is not very durable. If you do not have a covered patio, you will want to invest in some patio furniture covers to protect your wicker dining set. Sun and moisture can be very harmful to this type of furniture.

Another quite popular material for outdoor furniture is teak, which is a type of tropical hardwood.  Teak dining sets have a great look and are very durable for a wood furniture set, and is actually fairly resistant to termite infestations.

Teak dining furniture is one of the more expensive types.  One advantage these sets offer is that, unlike metals such as aluminum or wrought iron, these wood sets are insulators that do not become very hot or cold as the temperature rises and falls.  This allows you to sit comfortably even when it is hot or cool outside.

Despite the high price, teak is a very popular choice for outdoor dining these days.  

Metal furniture, such as aluminum patio dining sets, are another very popular choice. Metals are much more durable than wicker, and are also the easiest materials to clean and maintain. This makes metal dining sets the best choice if they will be regularly exposed to the elements in an uncovered area, such as a pool or a deck with no patio cover.

Aluminum also has the advantage of being one of the lowest cost materials used in outdoor furniture, so aluminum dining sets tend to be among the cheapest if you are looking to save some money.

Another popular form of metal outdoor tables and chairs is wrought iron. These are probably the most durable type of furniture you will find. Unlike aluminum, however, wrought iron is very heavy, making it inconvenient to move around frequently. Wrought iron is also generally more expensive than cheaper metals.

All of the metal sets do suffer from one main disadvantage: they are conductors of heat. When temperatures become cold or hot, the metal will tend to become quite cold or quite hot very quickly. This can be a bit uncomfortable or even painful, so you'll definitely want to use these under some type of shaded patio or area.
